Grumble Weeks

Grumble weeks 2024

We at the student union JAMKO want to know how you, the student, are doing in our higher education community and what you think about your studies at Jamk. Now it’s your turn to open your mouth!

During the Grumble Weeks, students can give anonymous feedback, both constructive and positive development suggestions, for example. Jamk’s education, the organization of teaching, services and the activities of the higher education community. Feedback is collected through an electronic survey in both Finnish and English. The survey is open 11.-24.3. This year’s theme is “Open your mouth”, with which we want to emphasize that students’ opinions play a major role in developing the quality of education and the entire higher education community!

The student union collects the feedback, compiles its main points and presents it to both students and staff at the field-specific Jupina afterparty. The events process the feedback received on a general level, and it is not possible to identify individual persons from them, for example. Written reports will be discontinued in connection with the coming weeks, and the unit’s management and quality teams will receive the collected field-specific feedback as it has been given.

Give thanks to Jamk’s staff!

During the Grumble Weeks, we will once again highlight staff members who deserve special thanks for their contribution to students’ issues. The aim is to highlight good practices and, above all, to give thanks for good work. In addition to teachers, you can also mention other staff representatives, for example from student services, IT services or even administration. The person with the most mentions will be awarded “Staff Member of the Year” after Grumble Weeks, and all thanks will also be passed on.

Summary of the Grumble Weeks' feedback

JAMKO’s annual Grumble Weeks were organised from 11-24 March 2024, where feedback on studies and support services was collected from students of both the Bachelor and Master programmes. A total of 451 students responded to the survey, and we would like to thank everyone for their valuable feedback! Important themes emerged from the feedback, such as the need to improve the Moodle workspaces to make them clearer and course assessments more consistent. The feedback also highlighted the importance of group work and project-based assignments for learning.

We have moved away from written reports, and published the results of the survey as slideshows, which are presented in the Follow up events for each study field. The uncensored feedback has been sent to unit management and quality teams for discussion.

Vesa Kuhanen, a lecturer and counsellor in the School of Social and Health Care Services, was elected by students as this year’s Staff Member of the Year. In addition, JAMKO awarded honorable mentions to Tuomas Lalluka the School of Social and Health Care Services and Hannu Haapamaa from the the School of Technology.

JAMKO has also received feedback in the survey, and we appreciate the time you took to help us. We will take your feedback into account in our future activities and strive to improve our services. Click here to see our responses to the most common feedback

What are Grumble weeks?

JAMKO’s feedback collection concept Grumble Weeks is an important tool for the development of common student issues, education, JAMK and JAMKO. Once a year, JAMKO uses Grumble Weeks to survey students’ opinions on teaching, well-being, facilities, the student union and the UAS activities through an electronic survey. The survey is anonymous, so the feedback cannot be linked to the person who gave it. The Student Union processes the feedback and forwards it to the unit administration and quality teams. Grumble Weeks are part of JAMK’s quality management and the survey is carried out in close cooperation with JAMK. The Grumble Weeks survey is combined with a feedback survey for degree students, which was carried out earlier in the second year of studies. This aims to provide more accurate and comprehensive data for the UAS. The questions in the feedback survey focus on the quality of education, guidance services and student well-being. After the Grumble Weeks, the feedback will be discussed at the Follow Up Events with students and staff.

The two-week Grumble Weeks are part of JAMK’s quality assurance system and have been organised since 2010.

JAMKO publishes the results without identifying information. This ensures that feedback can be given anonymously and without worry.
