Grumble Weeks

What are Grumble weeks?

Grumble Weeks are arranged 4.-18.3.

Student, how are you doing in our higher education community and what you think about your studies at Jamk? During Grumble Weeks, students can give anonymous feedback and constructive and positive suggestions for improvement regarding, for example, Jamk’s education, teaching arrangements, services, and the activities of the higher education community. Feedback is collected via an electronic survey in both Finnish and English. The student union collects the feedback, compiles the main points, and presents it to both students and staff at field-specific Grumble Afters events. The events address the feedback on a general level, and it is not possible to identify individual persons, for example. The collected field-specific feedback is delivered to the management and quality teams of the units as it is.

Share your praise with Jamk staff!

During Grumble Weeks, we highlight staff members who deserve special praise for their contribution to student affairs. The aim is to highlight good practices and, above all, to thank them for their good work. In addition to teachers, other staff members can also be mentioned, for example, from student services, IT services, or even administration. The person with the most mentions will be awarded “Staff Member of the Year” after Grumble Weeks, and all praise will also be passed on.

At the Grumble Afters-event, you will hear what is being discussed in the field
After the survey, the collected feedback is discussed at the Grumble Afters together with students and staff. The event highlights the most discussed topics and reveal the staff member of the year. The events are held on all campuses, and remote participation is possible. All students and staff in the field are welcome to attend the follow-up events, where they can participate in discussions or simply follow the hot topics in their field. JAMKO representatives lead the discussions. The event is an excellent opportunity for study field  organizations to influence matters in their own field and develop cooperation with the university.

Part of Jamk's quality work

JAMKO’s feedback collection concept is an important tool for developing matters related to students, education and Jamk operations. Once a year JAMKO surveys students’ opinions on teaching, teaching facilities, and the activities of the student union and university of applied sciences using an electronic questionnaire. The survey is anonymous, so the feedback cannot be linked to the respondent. The student union processes the feedback and forwards it to the administration and quality teams of the units. Grumble Weeks is part of Jamk’s quality system. The Grumble Weeks survey has been combined with a feedback survey previously conducted for degree students in their second year of study. The aim is to obtain more accurate and comprehensive data for use by the university. The questions in the feedback survey focus on the quality of education, guidance services, and student well-being.

Grumble Weeks have been arranged in close cooperation with Jamk since 2010.

Grumble Feedback 2024

JAMKO’s annual Grumble Weeks were organised from 11-24 March 2024, where feedback on studies and support services was collected from students of both the Bachelor and Master programmes. A total of 451 students responded to the survey. Important themes emerged from the feedback, such as the need to improve the Moodle workspaces to make them clearer and course assessments more consistent. The feedback also highlighted the importance of group work and project-based assignments for learning.

We have moved away from written reports, and published the results of the survey as slideshows, which are presented in the Follow up events for each study field. The uncensored feedback has been sent to unit management and quality teams for discussion.

Vesa Kuhanen, a lecturer and counsellor in the School of Social and Health Care Services, was elected by students as this year’s Staff Member of the Year. In addition, JAMKO awarded honorable mentions to Tuomas Lalluka the School of Social and Health Care Services and Hannu Haapamaa from the the School of Technology.

JAMKO has also received feedback in the survey, and we appreciate the time you took to help us. We will take your feedback into account in our future activities and strive to improve our services. Click here to see our responses to the most common feedback
