Types of tutoring
Peer tutoring
Peer tutors provide assistance and support to degree students in the Finnish-language degree programmes. Especially in the early stages of their studies, peer tutors’ main task is to help new students to adapt to the university environment, possibly to a new city, and to the tools they will use in their studies.
Each degree programme has its own peer tutors, so in addition to general study-related issues, you can also get practical tips from peer tutors on issues related to your degree. Peer tutors introduce themselves to new students at the very beginning of their studies during orientation. Peer tutors also work in close cooperation with tutor teachers, mentors and SFAs

Exchange tutoring
The exchange tutors provide peer guidance for international students arriving in Jamk. They help these students with practical arrangements at the start of their studies, or before they arrive in Finland.
The important tasks of the exchange tutor is to introduce the student to Finland, Finnish culture, and to help them adapt to the living environment and student life. Tutoring exchange students is a great opportunity to develop language skills and to network with new people.
Exchange tutor tasks
The exchange tutor will contact the exchange students in advance to make practical arrangements. This way the students can get tips and advice from their personal exchange tutor, e.g. on finding accommodation or using public transport.
Exchange students are then welcomed to Jyväskylä by their exchange tutors, who usually pick them up and guide them from Matkakeskus to the student’s new apartment.

Degree tutoring
Degree tutors support new students on English-language degree programmes and their role is almost identical to that of peer tutors. Particularly in the early stages of their studies, the main role of degree tutors is to help new students to adapt to the university environment, possibly to a new city or country, and to the tools they will use in their studies.
Each degree programme has its own degree tutors, so in addition to general study-related issues, degree tutors can also give you practical advice on issues related to your own programme.
