Student card requirements got simpler

According to the new guidelines of the roof organisation of UAS student Unions SAMOK, the blue Student Card is now for the students who are studying for a UAS first or second cycle degree. You can get a blue card if you meet all of the following criteria:

  1. You are enrolled at a UAS and studying for a UAS first or second cycle degree.
  2. You are enrolled as present for the academic year/term.
  3. You become a member of your UAS student union.

The new card guidelines bring clearness to previous card criteria. The new guidelines are in place from the beginning of the academic year 2016-2017 and they are valid until further notice. The student can get with blue card many benefits that have been negotiated for the card. With blue card you can for instance get discount on National Railway (VR) and Bus trips (Matkahuolto). In addition to this, you can prove that you are entitled to get the Kela meal subsidy and get student priced lunch in student restaurants around Finland. The benefits apply only for the blue card.

The sticker on the student card indicates its validity. The sticker is an indicator that the student has paid the student union membership fee, so the sticker is not a product sold separately. In addition to paying the membership fee, the student must also meet all relevant criteria.

Green student card is meant for other students of UAS, for instance open UAS and teacher education college and study path students. You are eligible for a green student card, if you meet all of the following criteria:

  1. You study at a UAS, but do not fulfil the criteria for a blue student card.
  2. You become a member of your UAS student union.

Green student card is not available at the moment. If you are interested in green student card, please contact JAMKO asiakaspalvelu(a)jamko.fi.

The benefits of the green card change

The changes regarding the the green student card mean that the previous right for Kela student lunch subsidy will end on August 1st 2016. With a green student card you are not either entitled to get any travel discounts, but other negotiated benefits apply. On the other hand, almost all previous green student card holders can now get the blue one.

If you already have a green student card and meet now the new criteria set for the blue card and wish to get one, please contact JAMKO office first asiakaspalvelu(a)jamko.fi, so that you get more info and the change process for the card gets started. Notice, that the office is closed until Aug 10th.
