Welcome to Jyväskylä!

Locating an apartment should be your number one priority when you receive a letter of acceptance from JAMK. It is wise to think about the rent level, whether you wish to live alone or with flat mates, and where in the city you want to live. In the center of the city the apartments are more expensive than in the suburbs but living further away from the center has its added costs e.g. bus tickets.

Due to the amount of resident seekers, especially in the autumn, you should not put your requirement level too high when it comes to your first apartment. The most important thing is to confirm an apartment. You will have time to find a better one later, after you get to know the city a bit better.

Where to find an apartment?

When you start looking for apartments the place to start is the Central Finland Student Housing Foundation (KOAS). KOAS has also furnished apartments that are highly useful for exchange students. Many of the local papers also have apartment advertisements and the student union of Jyväskylä University has an apartment forum on their website. You can also try the apartment forum on Elmo student intra of JAMK UAS, after you receive your student passwords. Look for apartments on the internet, in the papers from the rental housing brokers, insurance companies, banks, foundations and friends. You can also leave a notice where you are looking an apartment.
