Events are organized with changes and special arrangements

Due to the exceptional autumn we have looked at our range of events and services and how to offer them safely. Even though the Freshmen party had to be cancelled, we want to offer opportunities for both freshmen’s and continuing students to spend time together safely. Each student should be able to take in the activities of their own community and explore their own hometown.

For the beginning of the autumn, we are going to organize especially outdoor events and events that enable remote participation. We will not have parties and afterparties at nightclubs at least during September. There are also changes to our travel selection for this fall.

Our upcoming events and some of the special arrangements

Beach picnic will be held on August 29th on the beach of Lake Tuomiojärvi. The picnic is for all students and is a non-alcoholic event. You can come alone, with a friend or with your study group. There will be games, hanging out and why not swimming if you have the courage. There are JAMKO’s board members and event team members who will take care of the safety of the event and give instructions.

The academic year will start with The Kick-off for all students on September 2nd. We will gather in Lutakonpuisto for a picnic with all the study field associations, local companies and associations to show the best sides of the city. At the picnic, safety will be taken care of by all the presenters and we hope that the participants will also take the instructions into account. The evening ends with the traditional cruise on Lake Päijänne. We will self half of the ship’s capacity, so be quick when the ticket sale starts. Ticket sale starts on 28th of October at noon.

Our first Recess will be held on September 7th both remotely and live. There will be a Kahoot! quiz which you can take part by joining us in the JAMKO Cafè or opening a remote connection to the event!

The Autumn Adventure is organized for the first time this year on September 19th. The adventure will be in Konnevesi National Park and there will be a transport for the participants. Due to bus transport, the number of participants has been reduced from the original and it will be possible to keep safety distances on the bus as well. For the bus we offer participants face masks and hand sanitizer. It is recommended to bring your own safety gear and hand sanitizer also.

You can participate in the Eat out evening on September 23rd in VENN. Delicious foods and refreshments combined with a relaxed program guarantee a great evening for you and your friends. Do not forget to show your JAMKO member card to get discounts. During the event the restaurants restrictions are taken into account and the full capacity is not available. You should arrive early to get a table.

The Overalls Oath Party for first year students has been cancelled from this autumn. We are looking at a new time when everyone would have a safe opportunity to participate. Usually after the oath it is allowed to sew overall badges on the overalls. However, we want that the students are able to start sewing the badges as soon as possible, so we will come up with other ways to implement the oath.

Trips

Unfortunately, we have had to remove the Lofoten trip from our selection this fall. Due to several hours of travel time, we cannot guarantee a safe bus ride to the destination. The trip to St. Petersburg this fall has also been cancelled by the service provider. At the moment, we are still keeping the Saariselkä trip in the selection, but we will monitor the proggress of the situation. We will announce the decisions closer to the time of the trip.

We emphasize responsible operations in all our events:
  • Do not come if you are sick or if you have any symptoms.
  • Take care of your hand hygiene, there will be hand sanitizers offered by JAMKO and it is a good idea to have your own with you.
  • Please always sneeze and cough into your sleeve or handkerchief (handkerchief immediately after in the trash).
  • Please keep the safety distances.
  • We have public events with free access, so you should consider using a face mask.
