JAMKO actives amplify young people’s voices at nordic climate discussion
In September, JAMKO took part in organizing the Nordic Children and Youth Climate Conference held in Stockholm from September 19 to 21, 2025. The event was arranged in cooperation with seven other Nordic youth organizations. The conference was held on September 19–21 in collaboration with seven other Nordic youth organizations. JAMKO was represented by Vice Chair of the Board Janna Komonen and Vice Chair of the Representative Council Eetu Ruotsalainen. JAMKO’s representatives contributed their expertise in areas such as budgeting, communications, and event safety. They also ensured that the principles of a safer space were implemented throughout the event.
The aim of the event was to bring together young people from the Nordic countries to discuss and learn about climate policy and to strengthen the voice of young people in climate policy decision-making. During the conference, the participants drafted a joint statement, which will be submitted to the UN COP30 climate conference.
The three-day event was attended by young people aged 13–30 from all the Nordic countries. The program included expert presentations, workshops, panel discussions, and group work, during which young people considered solutions to current climate challenges.
The declaration drafted at the conference has now been published, and youth organizations will use it to influence decision-making at the COP30 climate conference, which begins on November 10. The statement calls for the inclusion of young people in climate policy decision-making processes at all stages — from planning to implementation.
