Join us in organizing the representatives council elections

Are you interested in influencing JAMKO’s activities, but prefer to work behind the scenes? Join the central election committee (CEC), where you’ll get to organize the JAMKO representatives council elections in the fall of 2026!

The CEC consists of a chairperson, a vice-chairperson, and 3–7 members, who are elected at a representatives council meeting. At its meeting on March 10, the representatives council elected a chairperson, a vice-chairperson, and 3 members to the central election committee. At the upcoming representatives council meeting on April 21, the representatives council will elect 0–4 additional members to the central election committee, so if you’re interested, there’s still time to join!

The duties of central election committee members can vary widely, and members get to choose their roles at the committee’s first meeting. Typically, central election committee members handle election communications, election events, or election systems. Tasks can also be managed in small teams, but each task has a designated person who ensures that things get done, even if they are not solely responsible.

Those working in communications, for example, are brainstorming ways to encourage student union members to run for council in the elections and how to motivate all members to vote. Those working on events, on the other hand, handle election-related events, such as election panels, election coffee stands, and election watch parties. The person working on election systems, meanwhile, ensures that the election machine and voting system are functioning properly.

So how much time does the central election committee’s work typically take? Based on last year, it takes a few hours a month in the spring, about an hour a week in the fall, and more as the election approaches. However, no two years are identical, so the number of hours spent on the central election committee’s work may vary. Much depends on how the central election committee conducts its preparatory work in the spring and how evenly the workload is distributed.

On the central election committee, you’ll have the chance to learn new things, such as how to organize election events, about the electoral system, communication, and how elections are actually conducted.

Additional members of the central election committee will be elected at the JAMKO representatives council meeting on April 21 starting at 5:00 PM in the Dynamo Auditorium and remotely; you can express your interest by submitting the form below.
