JAMKO’s Lauri Kujala elected the Chairperson of SAMOK 2024

JAMKO’s Chairperson Lauri Kujala has been elected as the Chairperson of The National Union of Students in Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences – SAMOK for the year 2024.Kujala was elected at the 28th Annual General General Assembly of SAMOK, which took place on 26-27 October 2023 in Rovaniemi. A total of around 100 student representatives from 22 student unions attended the meeting to decide on the activities, budget and Board members of SAMOK for the coming year.

SAMOK is a nationwide student advocacy organisation consisting of 23 Student Unions across Finland and representing 168 000 students at Universities of Applied Sciences.

“I am over the moon and grateful for the trust of the whole field! Let’s work together next year to make a better tomorrow for students and student unions!”, says Lauri, describing his feelings just after his election.

Kujala is studying nursing at the Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences and has served on the Board of Student Union JAMKO for two years, most recently as Chairperson of the Board.

“I have had the pleasure of working with Laur for almost two years, most recently as his campaign manager. It has been a pleasure to watch Laur grow from a student activist to a reliable, fair and compassionate leader. I believe that he will take care of his Board and Finnish students with all his heart”, says Noora Hakonen, who managed Lauri’s campaign.

Lauri’s work at SAMOK will start in January 2024 in Helsinki, and the induction will start already this year. SAMOK represents around 168 000 students from universities of applied sciences across Finland and works nationwide to promote the social position of students.
