Annu Suvilehto chosen to SAMOK’s Board
JAMKO has reason to celebrate again! JAMKO’s active Annu Suvilehto has been elected to the board of the Union of Students in Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences (SAMOK) for 2026. Suvilehto was elected at SAMOK’s 30th general meeting, which was held on October 30-31, 2025, in Seinäjoki. She received the most votes in the board election.
“I would like to thank the entire student union community from the bottom of my heart for their trust. I promise to be worthy of your vote and do my best to ensure that we students have a secure future and high-quality education. I am looking forward to many learning experiences, good discussions, and hard educational policy work next year,” Annu described her feelings after the election.
Suvilehto has been active in the JAMKO student union for three years, as a tutor coordinator, chair of the board, and most recently as chair of the representative council. Suvilehto will graduate as an information and communication technology engineer in December. Annu’s work at SAMOK will begin in January 2026 in Helsinki, and her orientation will start this year.
“I have had the pleasure of working with Annu for several years – she has been my supervisor, mentor, and an inspiring role model. She has a tremendous amount of knowledge and insight into the student union field, and her heart is in the right place when it comes to student rights. I have seen up close how Annu has acted calmly and decisively even in difficult situations – and it is precisely this skill and attitude that SAMOK benefits from. I couldn’t be prouder of Annu!” said JAMKO chair Otso Miettunen after the union meeting.
At the union meeting, student representatives from 22 student unions decided on the union’s activities for the coming year, including SAMOK’s action plan, budget, and personnel appointments for 2026. SAMOK represents approximately 168,000 university of applied sciences students across Finland and works nationally to promote the social status of students.
