Trusteeship power duo was awarded SAMOK’s Student Achievement of the Year award

JAMKO is celebrating! Sonja Wesa, this year’s social policy responsible, and Aamos Wilhelms, education policy responsible, have been awarded the Student Act of the Year award by The Union of Students in Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences – SAMOK. The aim of the award is to highlight the important role of students in society and in the university of applied sciences community. Aamos and Sonja’s tremendous contribution to promoting the visibility of JAMKO’s advocacy work has earned them well-deserved recognition.

Wesa and Wilhelms are better known as JAMKO’s xopos and have launched “Xopo Monday,” where every other week they produce advocacy-themed posts on social media. In addition, they managed to break JAMKO’s Grumble week response records. Both have thrown themselves into the task wholeheartedly and put themselves on the line, as evidenced by the Grumble rap, produced by JAMKO’s tutor responsible Severi Boesen. With these stunts, Wesa and Wilhelms have also attracted widespread attention in the student union field.

Student acts for the year were collected during the fall from members of the university of applied sciences communities. The final selection from the collected proposals was made by a jury assembled by SAMOK, consisting of Sonja Naalisvaara, chair of Nyyti ry, Lauri Kujala, chair of STTK students, Kia Kauppinen, vice chair of Akava students, and Taru Kyllönen, member of the SAMOK board. The award was presented at the SAMOK union meeting in Seinäjoki on October 30, 2025.
