Jamk and Jyväskylä University became a consortium – What does it mean for us students?
The higher education institutions in Jyväskylä officially became a consortium at the beginning of 2026. The members of Student Union JAMKO are involved in defining what the Jyväskylä Universities Consortium means in practice from the perspective of students, study opportunities, and student services. To clear up any misconceptions, the basic tasks of the higher education institutions will remain unchanged in accordance with the Universities Act and the Universities of Applied Sciences Act, and they will remain separate options for application and study. However, the institutions will be collaborating to create more opportunities for students and improve the quality of education across both of them.
We are working with the University’s Student Union, JYY, to find opportunities to better the lives of Jyväskylä Universities’ students by active participation in various guidance and working groups under Jamk and JYU related to the consortium. JYY is an incredibly important partner that allows us to better present what all higher education students in Jyväskylä would want in their student life. JAMKO’s focus is of course the perspective of UAS students.
Some of the concrete ideas and concerns that have come up during our work in the consortium are:
- More integration and opportunities in finding cross-disciplinary courses and flexible study options
- Common facilities and events to meet other Jyväskylä students to bring students together and create a common identity
- Keeping the quality of Jamk’s valuable students services while also looking towards possible improvements
- If you have any questions or concerns about the consortium or any ideas for what you would want to see in Jyväskylä’s education in the future, you can reach us directly via email or stop by the office for a chat!
